Electric cars are a buzzword in the motor industry. They are fast gaining a lot of popularity, and almost everyone fancies an electric car. Electric vehicles offer numerous benefits and will save you on fuel and maintenance costs. However, you’ll need to install an eclectic charger for your car to function efficiently. This can be confusing if you don’t know how to go about it. Don’t fret, though! There are various hacks to doing this right.

 Check out some ideas:

  1. Determine the load

Find out whether your electricity in the home supports an additional car charger. These devices use up a lot of power once plugged in. This means that your charger won’t work efficiently if your system is faulty or doesn’t support that exact power load. To avoid this, contact an electrician to calculate the load; this will determine the power amount consumed in your home and ensure that there’s enough to support your charger.

  1. Is there space in your electrical panel?

Ascertain that there’s adequate space in your electrical panel to support electric car charger installation. If it’s an old model, you may have to change it. For newer models, the space will depend on the brand. Therefore, hire an electrician to inspect your panel and verify that you have the capacity and space to accommodate an electric car charger.

  1. Choose your chargers wisely.

There are different car chargers; these are levels one and two. Level one plugs into a 120 volt and is easy to use in the home. It takes up to 20 hours for the battery to charge fully. Similarly, level two chargers are 240 V and should be installed by a professional. They are more convenient and offer faster charging times than the level ones. Most professionals recommend the level two chargers.

  1. What of the brand?

You’ll get electric car chargers in different brands, and some are superior to others. Some offer multiple charging options and are highly durable. However, your budget will influence your purchase decisions.

  1. Think of the location

Most people assume that this is an easy step, but it isn’t. For instance, if your location doesn’t make electrical sense, this can lead to costly runs to convey power to the charger. And this makes it critical to choose the most suitable location.

Install the outlet close to the electrical panel to minimize the installation costs. But, you may need to install the outlet in a different location depending on the EV port location.

  1. Engage a skilled electrician

EV chargers should be installed by a professional electrician. Your choice of electrician determines the services offered and the functioning of your charger. Choose a skilled and experienced person to avoid blunders. Also, ensure that the electrician is licensed and has an RBQ number.

The bottom line

Installing an electric car charger is easy when you know how to do it right. First of all, determine the power load in your home, and follow the mentioned tips. Also, search for more ideas online and seek guidance from the manufacturer to avoid damaging your charger.
