 The automobile industry has experienced significant changes in recent years. Electric cars are fast gaining a lot of fame and are replacing diesel-powered vehicles. To have your car functioning optimally, you need the right accessories, and the charger is a perfect example. However, this isn’t your typical type of charger, and you need the right outlet for optimal charging. Also, there are different types of electric charging outlets, and understanding how they work goes a long way.

 Here’s what to know about electric car chargers& outlets:

  1. You can always get a public charging station when away from home.

 A public charging station allows you to charge your electric car when traveling long distances. You’ll find them in strategic places like restaurants, shopping centres and many other public spots. Public charging stations offer different levels of charging; these are levels 1,2 and 3. You can charge any electric car in level one and two stations, and the charging power is the same as the one you can fix at home.

However, level 3 chargers are more powerful and are fast charging. When connecting a car charger to wall outlet, understand that not all electric vehicles can charge on level 3 stations. And it’s advisable to understand your car’s capability before choosing an outlet.

  1. Level 1 charging stations are very slow.

 Level one charging stations are slow and won’t meet your needs as a EV driver. If you wish to charge your car faster while on the road, go for a level three charger. Such charging stations offer a range of charging opportunities for EVs and are very fast.

 But, understand that a DCFC station is only effective when your battery is below 80%. Once it surpasses this limit, you should plug it into a level 2 charger.

  1. Understanding the different types of charging outlets is critical.

There are different types of electrical outlets. Understanding how they work helps you to choose the right outlet for your charger. Besides, your charger may get damaged or fail to charge when used on the wrong outlet. Examples of electric car charging outlets to install in your home are;

  • 120 Volt outlets
  • 240 Volt outlets

  1. 3. You can charge your electric car at home.

Charging your electric car at home is convenient and cheaper than using a public charging point. However, you need the right type of charger to avoid damaging your battery.

 What do I need? To charge your electric car at home, you need a garage. Moreover, have it powered and a wallbox installed. This will minimize the charging time and ensue speedy charging.

  1. There are different types of connectors for home use.

Type 2 connectors are commonly used for home charging. They plug in most cars, but some vehicles still use type 1 sockets. However, electric cars are different, and you should follow instructions on the user manual when choosing a connector for your car.

 In summary, electric cars are great inventions in the motor world. However, they are different with varying charging needs, and not all outlets will work on your car. Always use the most suitable charger, and ensure it’s fast enough to power your car within less time.
