PDR or Paint-less Dent Removal involves re-shaping a body panel that has been dented. Unlike other dent repairs, there is no need to use filler or paint to hide the damage. During this process, the panel is carefully manipulated from behind using an array of specialist tools.Resulting in the panel returning to its original shape once the dent is carefully pressed out.Resulting in no mess and keeping the original paintwork on the car.

It is a much quicker and less expensive process than traditional dent repairsand is very popular in today’s repair shops. No additional painting or drying processes are required, with work often completed in a few hours. The larger and more complex the dent(s) the longer the process takes and may typically be only a few days.

According to Mark from Preserve Protect “Paint-less dent repair is considered the number one option for dents of smaller sizes, as long as the paintwork has not been damaged.” Typically dents from car park bumps, or low speed impacts on a small area.

What does the process involve?

A skilled technician is required to carefully move the different areas of the metal to the precise height needed. This is usually from inside the panel, by using metal rods and body picks to manipulate the dents carefully, resulting in the panel returning to its original state. The deeper the dent, the longer and more stages the in this process.

Lots of artificial LED lights are used to illuminate the area for the technician to clearly see the dents progress as they work it out.

What are the advantages of PDR?

Suitable for all kinds of dents –Evensmaller dings, paint-less dent repair is suitable for all sizes. Larger shallow dents is where it works best – when the paint has not been damaged. Once the paint has been damaged, the panel will need to undergo a paint touch up.

Leading Industry Technique – Used as the main method by manufacturers, it is an industry approved process.

No insurance claim required – Without the need to contact your insurance company, taking time, and often a large excess, PDR is a cheaper alternative that won’t affect your no claims and will keep your prices down.

Holds and maintains your cars value – Without any dings or dents, your car will look great to potential buyers. Especially on classic cars where the body work is especially important and difficult to colour match.

No effect on colour–PDR process leaves you without the need to re-spray or touch up any paintwork, the non-invasive process will leave your car in the same colour as it came in with.

Best of all, it’s low cost to you.

Without the need to mix paints, use filler or additional processes PDR is less expensive than traditional dent repairs and leaves your body panel looking as good as new!
